2024 Adventure Challenge Highlights
Welcome to our first Adventure Highlights journal!
2024 was another adventurous fun-filled year with unforgettable memories made. It was a busy end to 2024 for us, from the snow-capped Himalayan mountains to the hottest desert in the world, the Sahara. Highlights included meeting the World Record Holder for the most ascents of Everest in Nepal, a thrilling 383 km cycling adventure from Vietnam to Cambodia, and epic llama selfies on the famous Inca Trail!
Here's a look at what made the end of the year unforgettable for us.
Inca Trail Trek
When: 1 - 10 November 2024
Breathtaking views, rich history, and the diverse Andean landscape made our iconic Inca Trail Trek an unforgettable experience. This amazing group completed over 50km of trekking to the magical Machu Picchu.
Matthew, one of our Inca Trail participants said, "I have to say how much of an amazing trip this was! Highly recommend it to anyone thinking of doing it. I just want to say as well, that Anna is an amazing group leader! She was informative and attentive, and her positivity was contagious. So lucky to have had her on this trip."
Everest Base Camp
When: 7 – 24 November 2024
Our incredible team completed the Everest Base Camp Trek - one of the world's most iconic treks! The team trekked to an altitude of 5,364 metres led by their amazing guide Steve (who has summited Mount Everest) and the ground crew.
Our participants also had the opportunity to meet and travel part of the trek with legendary Kami Rita Sherpa, who since 2018 has held the record for the most ascents to the summit of Mount Everest. Kami Rita Sherpa conquered the mountain for the 30th time this year, breaking his record.
Participant Tom said, "With some amazing people met along the journey, I could not have wished for a better experience for the best trip of my life so far!"
Teresa who also completed the challenge said, "So many memories made, tough ones and beautiful ones too. I met amazing people who once again supported each other to achieve their goals. The Global Adventure Challenges team and Dawa and his awesome team of sherpa guides couldn't do enough for us."
Sahara Desert Trek
When: 13 -18 November 2024
This amazing group spent 4 days trekking through the most famous desert on Earth – the Sahara. They climbed sand dunes, witnessed a Saharan sunrise, and slept under the stars creating memories to last a lifetime. The days were hot, and the trekking was tough, but with the support of each other and the guides, the group was able to successfully conquer this mammoth desert and experience the delights of Morocco firsthand.
Vietnam to Cambodia Cycle
When: 17 – 27 November 2024
This fantastic group biked over 382km, all the way from Vietnam to the ancient temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia! A breathtaking 6-day bike ride combining two exciting Asian Countries in one Challenge.
The group cycled through many traditional Vietnamese villages, following gorgeous streams and rivers, passing paddy fields, and adjacent to stunning mountains.
After a fascinating river journey and a rest day on the Mekong and Bassac Rivers, the team crossed the border into Cambodia and pushed on to the world-famous temple site of Angkor Wat – the eight wonder of the world!
Dalai Lama Trek
When: 7 – 17 November 2024
We were proud to support St John's Hospice on their 50km trek through the breathtaking Indian Himalayas.
St John's Hospice is a local hospice that provides palliative care to their patients with life-shortening conditions covering North Lancashire, South Lakes, and parts of North Yorkshire. Their services focus on improving patients' symptoms, and end-of-life care. The hospice's experienced team of specialists works together with our patients to make sure they are getting the care and support they need to live their life their way as much as possible.
This incredible group trekked to Triund (2875 meters) and visited the Taj Mahal, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, raising a total of over £150,000 for the charity.
Angkor Wat Trek
When: 3 – 11 November 2024
We were proud to support the EY Foundation with their Angkor Wat trek. The EY Foundation is an independent charity supporting young people from a low-income background to thrive in the workplace.
This amazing team trekked approximately 94km over 5 days on this epic challenge to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat. The team trekked through paddy fields and local villages and camped in monasteries. Along the way, they climbed Kulen Mountain, swam in holy water, practiced yoga, and visited sacred temples.
Dalai Lama Trek
When: 14 – 24 November 2024
We were proud to support Action Cancer on their epic challenge at the heart of the Indian Himalayas on their Dalai Lama Trek.
Action Cancer is Northern Ireland's leading, local cancer charity. Their mission is to save lives and support local people through cancer awareness, prevention, detection, and support.
This incredible group hiked for up to 10 hours a day across rocky and steep terrain and spent their nights camping under the stars. Their journey concluded with a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Kilimanjaro Trek
When: 26 December 2024 – 4 January 2025
We ended 2024 and kickstarted the New Year at the summit of the World's highest freestanding mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. The team spent New Year's Eve trekking through stunning landscapes with breathtaking views, passing through dense tropical rainforest, moorland, and scree on their way to Uhuru Peak, the highest point. Reaching the summit on New Year's Day was a truly unforgettable experience!
What's Next?
We have an exciting year packed full of adventures ahead. We'll be starting off from the lush green trails of Costa Rica, before heading to Iceland in search of the Northern Lights, then heading off on a snowy Lapland adventure for our first Husky Trail Sled of the year.
