Everything You Need to Know About the Three Peaks Trek
Why should I sign up with Global Adventure Challenges rather than trekking by myself?
By choosing to join us you’ll be taking the stress out of the challenge – from the moment you sign up you’re on a fully supported journey to the finish line. We’ll provide you with a kit list, training plan and our top tips for fundraising success, so when you arrive at the start line you’re fully prepared for the challenge ahead. Our trek is led by professional Global Adventure Challenges leaders who will keep you safe throughout the challenge, and they will be supported on the ground by a team of experienced mountain guides.
Pick up from Manchester or Glasgow at the beginning of the challenge and drop off at Manchester or Chester at the end of the challenge are also included, so there’s no need to worry about transfers!
Will we complete the challenge in 24 hours?
We have a target trekking time of 15 hours (the equivalent time available for the traditional 24-hour challenge) – so although our challenge takes place over approximately 30 hours to avoid rushing between mountains, the time available to trek will be the same!
How difficult is the Three Peaks Trek?
We’ll be trekking for at least 15 hours over a 30-hour period, covering around 21 miles over the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales – so it is not a challenge to be underestimated! That said, our itinerary is designed to maximise our chances of success, and it is not a race. With the right training and preparation, our event is designed to be challenging but achievable. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the challenge, so following a training plan is a must!
What support is there on the Three Peaks Challenge?
There will be a strong support team with professional Global Adventure Challenges leaders and a full, comprehensive first aid kit will be taken. A support vehicle will be located at the foot of the mountain will provide extra support if needed, and mobile phones will be used to ensure our safety and security at all times. Your challenge crew are there to keep you safe and ensure you have an unforgettable experience during your challenge, so if there is anything that they can do to assist you do not hesitate to ask.
Will the route be marked or am I required to use a map?
When you register on the day, you will be supplied with a route guide in your trekking pack. You must carry this with you during the trek so you can regularly check where you are on the route. Walking guides will lead the group throughout your challenge. Depending on the size of your group, there may be multiple walking guides who will each take a group to ensure that the footpaths don’t get overcrowded. This will also mean that we can accommodate different walking speeds in different groups. Don’t worry if you feel you’ve ended up in a group that’s too slow or fast - there will be an opportunity to change groups at appropriate points on the trek!
What meals are included?
Following registration in Fort William, we will have an evening meal and breakfast before taking on Ben Nevis. On our way to Scafell Pike, we will stop at a service station where you can purchase some food – it may also be worth purchasing extra food for your journey from Scafell Pike to Snowdon. Once we have completed our descent of Snowdon, we’ll enjoy lunch in Llanberis.
A selection of snacks will also be provided to you at different times throughout the challenge, to help keep your energy levels up. We also strongly recommend that you bring along some of your absolute favourite snacks (especially if they are high in energy) in case you start to run out of steam and need a little motivation to help you push on through!
What kit should I bring on the Three Peaks Challenge?
We will supply you with a kit list as soon as you sign up, but don’t worry – apart from some broken in trekking boots and some waterproofs you do not need any specialist kit. You must carry all the mandatory items on the kit list as most of these items are critical to your safety.
Yes – we will send you a training plan when you register. You can also access it here if you want to start your training early!
How much does the Three Peaks Challenge cost?
This challenge can be funded in one of two ways and you’ll need to decide which payment option is the best for you before you secure your space:
Option A - Minimum Sponsorship With this option, the cost of your event will be met by raising a minimum amount of sponsorship for your chosen charity. Most people choosing this option will sign up a year in advance to allow them the time to fundraise, but this isn’t set in stone! Some events have a lower minimum sponsorship amount and you may feel you can raise the required amount in less than a year. |
Option B - Self-Funding With Payment Option B, you’ll fund the challenge yourself with no need to raise funds for a charity. If you’d still like to fundraise, any sponsorship you do raise will be kept by the charity. |
Whichever payment option you choose, you'll need to pay the following registration fee in order to secure your space on the challenge:
Registration Fee - £95
If you have chosen Option A (Minimum Sponsorship), you'll then need to raise the following amount:
Minimum Sponsorship - £920
Alternatively, if you have chosen Option B (Self-Funding), you will need to pay the following amount 12 weeks before your challenge:
Challenge Balance - £460
