The Route

Horton-in-Ribblesdale to Pen-y-ghent summit

Pen-y-ghent is probably the toughest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, but the quickest to complete. If you are aiming to complete the challenge in 12 hours, then this should take approximately 1 hour, 30 minutes. Expect steep sections and uneven surfaces, evening out towards the summit.

Pen-y-ghent summit to Whernside Summit

The next part of the trek is to reach the peak of Whernside. This section takes a lot longer, but is the easiest section of the challenge – with little incline. In order to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 12 hours, this section should take approximately 5 hours.

Whernside Summit to Ingleborough Summit

It’s time to reach the final summit! This section will feel tough – especially with tired legs, after conquering two peaks already. Based on the 12 hour challenge, this section should take just over 3 hours to complete. Reaching the peak of Ingleborough will leave you with a huge sense of achievement, knowing you have reached the summit of all three peaks. It’s now time to head back to the starting point, aiming to complete the challenge in under 12 hours.

Ingleborough Summit to Horton-in-Ribblesdale

Once you have reached the final trig point at Ingleborough, it’s all downhill until you reach your starting point at Horton-in-Ribblesdale. In order to complete the challenge in 12 hours, this final section should take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. It’s then time to relax and celebrate your amazing accomplishment!
