Meet Dome!
Today we're introducing you to Warodom (Dome) Kokhue - one of the amazing guides you can look forward to meeting on our Cycle Thailand adventure in 2021!
Tell us about yourself, and how you became part of the adventure industry!
My name is Warodom (Dome) Kokhue. I was born in Akha tribal village in Myanmar but grew up in small remote town in the Northernmost of Thailand. When I finished grade 4 in the age of 10 I moved to Wat Srisoda, the Buddhist temple, in Chiangmai for further education. A year later, I moved back to the village to help my parents on the farm and moved back to the same temple again after 3 years. Eventually, I was ordained to be a novice and lived in that temple for 3 years then moved to Bangkok for future education and lived in Bangkok for another 6 years before I decided to leave the monkhood in 2010.
Since I left the monkhood I have entered into tourism industry by doing adventure tours in Kao Sok, Suratthani province. There was canoeing, kayaking, jungle trekking and cooking, mangrove forest exploration and fresh water lake exploration. A year later, I studied about tourism and earned my certificate of tourism and worked as freelance with a few adventure companies in Chiangmai. In 2012, I started a new adventure working with Visiting Schools program, where I guided students all over the world to do educational outdoor activities such as biking, kayaking, rock climbing, community services etc.
Later on, I was promoted to be an organic farm manager as part of the outdoor activities; However, I was in the role for only 6 months because I was offered a scholarship in Colombia for visiting and studying basic Spanish for 4 months.
When I came back from Colombia I started to work as a cycling guide again in Thailand as I love to show international groups the beautiful countryside and culture we have here on two wheels. Discovering Thailand by bike is my favorite adventure so far and I am so happy that I am able to do this as a job, always discovering new places with clients and teaching them the many cultures and different way of living we have here in Thailand.
Wow! Thanks Dome!
