Top 5 Tips for Making the Most Out of TrekFest 2018!

Taking on TrekFest is not an easy task. It is tough and will challenge you both mentally and physically. Following these five steps will ensure you make the most of this amazing experience and come away with an overwhelming sense of achievement.

1. Get Training!

You will enjoy TrekFest so much more if you have upped your fitness before the event. The best way to prepare for a really long trek - do some really long treks! Start with shorter walks, then begin to increase the distance and difficulty as you feel yourself getting fitter – and make sure you walk on a variety of terrains. Find some nice local walks in your area, bring your friends and family along with you – and make training as fun as possible! Training is also the best way to wear in your walking boots and get used to the kit that you will be wearing during TrekFest. Check out the TrekFest training guide for more info!

2. Be Prepared!

In the week leading up to the event make sure that you have all the right kit to take on the challenge. You will be given a mandatory and recommended kit list once you have signed up. The mandatory kit list is, as I am sure you can guess, mandatory! Anyone not carrying these items will not be permitted to take part, so make sure you are fully prepared and have all the items you need.

Make sure you eat and sleep well in the lead up to the event! It is so important to make sure you give your body the right fuel it needs to take on TrekFest. Ease off on the training the days before the event and fill your body with highly nutritious foods. Most importantly, on the morning of the event don’t forget about the most important meal of the day – breakfast! Start the day having fuelled yourself sufficiently. 3. Look after yourself along the way!

Make sure you are monitoring your food and drink intake throughout the trek. Remember, you are walking a substantial distance and will be burning lots of calories and using fluid – which all needs to be replenished. There will be checkpoints along the way, offering refreshments but ensure you have plenty of water and snacks with you.

Don’t walk alone. For safety reasons no one is permitted to walk alone during TrekFest. This is a great chance to make friends along the way, help each other and keep each other’s morale high throughout the trek!  Remember – you are walking with hundreds of likeminded individuals who all have one goal in mind – to cross that finish line!

Take a breather. Listen to your body, and rest when you feel like you need to. Not only is this important for recovery – but it is a perfect chance for you to take in the beautiful scenery surrounding you. TrekFest is in the stunning location of the Peak District, one of the UK’s most picturesque national parks. The perfect location for trekking!

4. Make the most out of the event village!

TrekFest is so much more than a trek. We have an amazing event village, which is the ideal place to soak up the pre and post event atmosphere. There is free parking and camping available too.  The event village is a great place to talk to fellow TrekFesters and reminisce on the amazing things you have accomplished. There is even an inflatable pub and BBQ on the Friday night! Don’t forget your free post trek massage to soothe away those aches and pains.

5. Remember the reason why you're taking part in TrekFest 2018!

If the trek becomes challenging and you are needing some motivation – just remind yourself exactly why it is you are taking on TrekFest 2018. Have you raised money for a charity close to your heart? Are you doing this to challenge yourself and push your own limits, or to make friends and memories that will last a lifetime? Whatever your reason, you are doing this for an amazing cause and should come away feeling proud of what you have achieved!
